Description
ASC’S Basic Surgical Skills Simulation training course is designed to instill core surgical skills at the very start of a surgeon’s training by teaching the correct basic techniques. Learners will be taught instrument handling, knot tying, suturing techniques, fine tissue handling and wound management. Participants are introduced to the principles underpinning the various techniques being taught and practice these techniques with individual tuition and under the expert supervision of consultant surgeons. Participants have access to pre-course material online giving them the opportunity to view the concepts covered by the course.

- Understand and practice safe operating techniques, gowning and gloving.
- Practice the correct techniques for laying safe surgical knots.
- Understand the characteristics and handling of surgical instruments.
- Learn the principles of handling tissues and recognise differing requirements for differing sites
- Understand and practice local anaesthetic techniques.
- Understand and practice safe and correct Foleys catheterization technique
- Understand and practice safe and correct Ryles tube insertion technique

This is a blended learning course that includes an online module and a contact course. The online lectures are interactive and provide learners with a clear understanding of concepts of basic surgical skills. The contact course allows learners to receive active, hands-on training from expert doctors in a realistic hospital setting. ASC maintains the optimal ratio of learners to trainers and a wide selection of simulation manikins. Every learner is provided with ample time and space to practice their skills and perfect their techniques.
